The Special Court for Sierra Leone, a war crimes tribunal, is situated in the centre of the Sierra Leonean capital of Freetown. As the precinct also serves as a maximum security prison for indictees, it is the most heavily guarded location in the West African nation - surrounded with high concrete walls, razor wire and machine gun posts manned by UN peacekeepers.
